Team Assassins! It begins… March 31, 2009
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council , add a commentA bit later than we thought, but last night, Monday 3/30, we had our Team Assassins social, and two teams of 10 will try to “kill” eachother with their red or blue socks! Check in the WR lobby for updates…
The rules are:
Eliminations:
The method of assassinating is by hitting your target with a sock. Anyone from the Blue team can assassinate anyone from Red team and vice versa. The target is “dead” after being struck with a sock. The assassin must record the death of another assassin by signing their name and date of the assassination under the respective dead person’s picture. The kill board will be posted in the lobby on the Office door and will contain each assassin’s picture. This is how each team will be able to identify their targets.
Teams will be supplied with the appropriate color sock and can only be killed by the opposing teams sock color. (i.e. A red team assassin can only be killed by a person from the blue team, with a blue sock)
Safe Zones:
The only safe room is your room once quiet hours are in effect. Any other place on or off campus is fair game. However, a person cannot be killed while in class.
Reward:
1st place – MVP (most kills) of the winning team receives a $25 gift card to place of choice
2nd place – MVP (most kills) of the losing team receives a $10 gift card to place of choice

Alcohol Awareness and Root Beer Games
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council , add a commentOn Monday 3/16, in honor of St. Patty’s Day, the Alternate Hall Council Event was about Alcohol Awareness and people played Root Beer Pong (complete with Bracket!) and Root Beer flip cup. Each person took a short quiz about their alcohol knowledge before they could play, and got a VERY informative pamphlet (awesome work Julie W!). Here are some pics from the event…

MmmmmMonkey Bread!
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council , add a commentOn February 23, the Hall Council hosted an event, guest starring Brandy Cannon (a former WR RA), that taught residents how to make both monkey bread and rice krispie treats in the microwave! Here’s some pictures of Brandy “supervising” as Steph and Chantille make the food:

And, if you want to try the monkey bread in your own microwave, here’s the receipe:
4 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Kickin’ off the Spring Semester! February 10, 2009
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council, Western Run RAs , add a commentThe first program hosted by the RA’s after returning from break was a “Welcome Back” social to play some games, eat some snacks, and let everyone just chill together…

Also in January the 4th Floor RAs, John and Lisa, hosted a very nice Dessert Social for their floor, and the 2nd Floor RAs, Kelly and Mattie, hosted a game night to get everyone together.
Hall Council started off strong with 2 great business meetings, and also decided to try out making every other meeting more like a program to make even more fun things to do in the building. The first program, organized by Gerard and Chauntia, was the “Battle of the Suites” roommate game. The winners were Mo and Matt in 301, with second place going to Michell and Megan in 316. Congrats!!!

Make sure you check the bulletin boards with with RAs or Hall Council members for more great programs!

Fall 2008 Review
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council, Western Run RAs , add a commentDespite my best intentions, I failed to provide regular updates. However, we had TONS of fun last semester, so here’s a few examples:

We had a great time at Halloween. Hall Council tried to do a trick-or-treating thing, but everyone who volunteered to give candy didn’t wander around. Next year, we’ll have to import some children from a local neighborhood.
However, RD Ashley likes costumes, so the RA staff turned out in fine form to celebrate the holiday. L-R Top: Mattie, Bianca, Jon, Tiffani, Billy. L-R Bottom: Kelly, John, Lisa, Ashley.

The RAs hosted A New YOU for the New YEAR at which there was healthy food and tips for staying healthy in college. Each person who came by could get a tip sheet, some healthy snacks, and things they could do to de-stress. If you look in the back, you can see our ASSASSINs board…
Hall C
ouncil put together an “Impossible Challenge” event that allowed residents to try crazy things. The events were: 6 Saltines in 1 minute, 1 piece of bread in 45 seco
nds, 18 peeps in 3m 45s (pictured below), eat 1 tbsp of cinnamon, and drink one gallon of whole milk in 1 hour and keep it down for 20 minutes. Most of the challenges had one winner, though the bread challenge turned into a bread-off, and 2 people made it down to eat 1 piece of bread in 2 seconds. John Amoroso was the only winner of the gallon challenge (pictured below), though Tyler Littleton, Jim Davis, and Alex Weitz all made valiant efforts.
As we moved through to Thanksgiving, people started to get stressed with finals and all that pretty quickly, so the RAs did a casual “Welcome Back, Good Luck” Bash for everyone with some food, some music, and some Catch Phrase.
And all of the sudden it was time to celebrate some holidays, get ready for finals, and go on break! The RA staff took their “Winter” pictures (with scarves!) and also did a fun close-up shot.

Hall Council’s last event of the semester was a massive Holiday Craft and Gingerbread Challenge, where we had Santa Hats and Stockings for students to decorate, and also 6 teams of students competed to build the best gingerbread house possible in 30 minutes. It was a great time, with probably 50 students participating in the crafts and/or the contest. A great way to end the semester for Hall Council!

On December 8, Western Run RAs hosted a double attack study break with one of the Apartment staffs, with
WR getting supplies for Candy Keepsakes to be made and the Apartment staff baking and decorating Crazy Cookies. The Candy Keepsakes were a huge hit! We had over 60 people attend. Residents enjoyed filling their jars with their favorite candy and than adding the final touchs by decorating the jars with string. Some residents made the jars for friends and family and some decided to keep them for themselves.

Right after that, at 10pm, our Hall Council had a holiday party open house at Ashley’s apartment with a smorgasboard of brownies, and then it was finals right to the end!
ASSASSINS! October 22, 2008
Posted by astaples in : Hall Council , add a commentWR Hall Council has been playing Assassins for about a week now — we started with 40 residents, and slowly the ranks keep getting “blown away” in the competition!
This week, the award for most tragic death goes to Chantille, who was betrayed by her friends, people she thought she knew, who let the killer lie in wait under her bed until he was able to safely take her OUT! Much loudness ensued… luckily before quiet hours…
Followed closely, however, by the death of Gerard, whose killer jumped out of bushes in order to get him. A little extreme, but not quite as creepy…
Here are all the lovely players: http://picasaweb.google.com/astaples/Assassins1Pics?authkey=qnTICct1sm0#
Good luck staying alive, everyone!
