Hi Everyone!

The whole campus is preparing for the upcoming President’s Celebration to welcome our admitted students, and Western Run is no different!  A HUGE thank you to those rooms that are allowing us to “show off” the amazing suites here at Stevenson — we couldn’t do this without you!

Team Assassins! It begins… March 31, 2009

Posted by astaples in : Hall Council , add a comment

A bit later than we thought, but last night, Monday 3/30, we had our Team Assassins social, and two teams of 10 will try to “kill” eachother with their red or blue socks!  Check in the WR lobby for updates…

The rules are:

Eliminations:

The method of assassinating is by hitting your target with a sock. Anyone from the Blue team can assassinate anyone from Red team and vice versa. The target is “dead” after being struck with a sock. The assassin must record the death of another assassin by signing their name and date of the assassination under the respective dead person’s picture. The kill board will be posted in the lobby on the Office door and will contain each assassin’s picture. This is how each team will be able to identify their targets.

Teams will be supplied with the appropriate color sock and can only be killed by the opposing teams sock color. (i.e. A red team assassin can only be killed by a person from the blue team, with a blue sock)

Safe Zones:

The only safe room is your room once quiet hours are in effect. Any other place on or off campus is fair game. However, a person cannot be killed while in class.

Reward:

1st place – MVP (most kills) of the winning team receives a $25 gift card to place of choice

2nd place – MVP (most kills) of the losing team receives a $10 gift card to place of choice

Congrats to the boys for dominating 4th Floor Game Night on March 21st!  Good job girls for sticking it out, even with a few players short of the boys.  Taboo, Blurt, and Battle of the Sexes were played by those in attendance of the game night.  Thanks for coming out!

On Thursday 3/19, the RAs of Western Run put together a little event with a LOT of flour and showed everyone how to make stress balls — to help with midterms or your NCAA brackets, whatever makes you stress!

On Monday 3/16, in honor of St. Patty’s Day, the Alternate Hall Council Event was about Alcohol Awareness and people played Root Beer Pong (complete with Bracket!) and Root Beer flip cup.  Each person took a short quiz about their alcohol knowledge before they could play, and got a VERY informative pamphlet (awesome work Julie W!).  Here are some pics from the event…

I hope everyone has a great time with friends and/or family, and comes back ready to finish the semester strong!

“Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”  ~Anthony Robbins~

See you on Sunday, March 15 after 12 noon!

MmmmmMonkey Bread!

On February 23, the Hall Council hosted an event, guest starring Brandy Cannon (a former WR RA), that taught residents how to make both monkey bread and rice krispie treats in the microwave!  Here’s some pictures of Brandy “supervising” as Steph and Chantille make the food:

And, if you want to try the monkey bread in your own microwave, here’s the receipe:

Life Skills Jeopardy February 10, 2009

Tonight in Western Run, the RAs sponsored “Life Skills Jeopardy”. Following the Jeopardy format, students were challenged to answer questions pertaining to various life skills such as etiquette, cooking, and money management. As shown, the guys team paired up to compete against the girls and duke it out for gift card prizes provided by Residence Life. The girls put up a fight despite only having two team members against the guys 5, but the guys eventually won in final Jeopardy.
